On-going service event
The Friends of the Library is a service event where members and officers volunteer in person. You are required to wear a face mask, wear gloves, and are advised to stay 6 feet apart from customers and staff. As for the month of June, we are allowing up to four volunteers per shift time instead of two volunteers. Volunteers are greeted by the store owner, Jeff, and he encourages you to roam around the store to familiarize and memorize the different book categories. Jeff will then assign you different tasks to do around the store and if volunteers are confused, Jeff is always available to answer them, ensuring that there are no misunderstandings. The staff members, Donna and Rochelle, would help organize the books by genres with volunteers and would get to know the volunteers more as we organize the books and put them on the shelves. Volunteers must sort the books into genres, last names, titles, and hardback/paperback. If volunteers notice any clusters or books that don’t belong in the correct category, they are encouraged to find ways to organize the books. Jeff will let you work the cash register or price books if you volunteer frequently. Rochelle would assist volunteers if they didn’t know how to organize the books by genre.
